Goemkarponn deskPANAJI: In an effort to raise awareness on the rise of human trafficking cases in Goa, Mukti Kiran incollaboration with Mog Foundation, is organising a debate on the topic: “Who is responsible tocontrol the issue of anti-human trafficking? Police along with the civil society or the policethemselves?”The debate will be conducted on 25 August, 2023, from 9 am onwards at the Multipurpose Hall,Sanskruti Bhavan, Directorate of Art and Culture, Patto, Panaji.The debate has received an overwhelming response from 25 Higher Secondary Schools of North Goa who have registered themselves for the Debate Competition as well as the poster competition.Stating that human trafficking is a significant crime, Roshan Mathias, Director, Mog Foundation statedthat, “Mog Foundation will do all it can to ensure that people are made aware of this heinous crime.We are working towards enforcing necessary action and measures by the authorities to reduce anderadicate this crime entirely in Goa. Goa is a tourism state, and is well respected. Such crimesoccurring in Goa are not acceptable. We extend our invitation to all the higher secondary schools ofNorth Goa to actively participate in this debate. People can also watch the debate live on that day.”He also said that one of the objectives of Mog Foundation is to create awareness, especially onhuman rights. “We have collaborated with Mukti Kiran who have dedicated themselves towards themission of anti-human trafficking in Goa. We at Mog Foundation support this entire cause,” he said.Sister Myra Da Costa, President of Mukti Kiran said, “In Goa, girls are trafficked from outside Goa andbrought for a period of one week to one month for commercial sexual exploitation. Sex trafficking ison the rise as rescues dip in Goa. Let us join the fight to end trafficking. Mukti Kiran believes thatinvolving communities along with the police and enforcement agencies to provide quality service tothe victims to reduce this crime. Everyone has something to offer. Let us use our time, talents, andpassion to inspire others to support the fight by building awareness in our community.”Sister Amala of Mukti Kiran said, “We all know about what is happening in Goa on the issue of humantrafficking. In order to create awareness, a number of concerned citizens have come together underthe banner of Mukti Kiran. This debate is a part of our goal to create awareness among the youth inthe schools and colleges. Instead of telling them about human trafficking, we hope the debate willencourage them to study the issue themselves.”The members of Mukti Kiran as well as Mog foundation extend their warm invitation to the public ofGoa to come and participate in this Debate competition.
